Voyager

This was one of the images that I captured during the 1981 PSA Convention in Utah. The important elements of this picture are lighting, colours, composition and clarity with fine details which all contribute to give a 3D effect. The touch of human interest enhanced the visual impact, giving a strong story content to the image.

This is another PSA Gold Medal award winner for the Best Slide of the Show (top awarded of 1466 slides from 33 countries), this time from the 23rd Hong Kong 35mm International Salon of Photography, 1985.

Squabbing Flamingoes

This is one of my three images that were used by Kodak for promotion as a collector’s Singapore Mass Rapid Transit card in 1995. Flamingoes are very common subjects that can be captured in our Jurong Bird Park. However, to freeze the perfect, decisive moment is a real challenge for photographers. I have collected many images of these birds during my past visits to the park. This particular one is still my favourite among them all.

The Only Girl In White

This is another image that I took at the Singapore Youth Festival opening ceremony at the Singapore National Stadium. I montaged a piece of magenta diazo film with the original transparency to colour the white shirts of the performers, all except for one. I already had the idea of applying the colour derivations technique to the scene even before I pressed the shutter. The final image has a much greater visual impact. This image was very successful in gaining acceptances at photographic salons. It was awarded a number of PSA Gold Medals for the Best Contemporary Slide of the show in various international salons in 70’s and 80’s.
