Bromo Village at Dawn

The early hours of the day are always regarded as the golden hours for mood photography. This landscape of a village near Mount Bromo, East Java is illustrative as an example. I captured my first impressions of the misty mood and atmosphere of a village near Mount Bromo in 1980. The smoke from the lit cigarette of the rider added interest to the whole image. This image won a Gold Medal at the 25th Maitland International Salon, Australia held in 1982..

What’s News?

This is a study of lines and patterns of light and shadows that I found at Labrador Park in Singapore in 1974. The young man (now he is COL NS Yun Ta Chun), one of my students in Canon photography course, was asked to pose to add as human interest to the whole image. A colour derivation with violet diazochrome film was created to give a contemporary touch. This image was awarded the Fran Clemence Medal of the 13th S4C International Salon, USA, held in 1976.

Above the Logs

I found this worksite along the Jurong River during one of my Sunday outings when I took my students of the “Canon Photography Course” for a photographic outing there. The volunteer (one of my students) was posed as the worker. Litho film was montaged to the original to create the dramatic impact of the image. This is one of my studies of composition, colour and decisive moment with a contemporary approach. The image won a Silver Medal at the 30th Buenos Aires International Salon, Argentina, held in 1975.
