Kusamba’s Dawn

One of my favorite places for photographic outing in Bali is Kusamba. The attraction here is the mood and atmosphere of the landscape at dawn. The black colour of volcanoes soil gave a strong base for the whole image. The waves in white gushing in from the sea added good contrast. The workers who were harvesting the sea water for salt provided the touch of human interest. Even as an almost monochromatic image, the aesthetics of this pictorial image is still very rich. This image was awarded the Photo Travel Medal of the Golden Spurs International Salon, Belgium, in 1992.

Twilight at Kintamani

On our way to Berdugul, Bali in 1995, we stayed overnight by the lakeside at Kintamani. During our stopover, I was fortunate to capture this fabulous landscape just in front of the hotel where we were staying. I think the mysterious mood and colours of the twilight are the essential elements of this image. This is one of the unexpected pictures that I was lucky to capture on many of my travels.

Misty Morning

I stayed in a caravan on my trip to a farm owned by a friend in Western Australia in 1986. The very next morning after my arrival, I was surprised to be greeted with this gloomy landscape from the caravan window. The serene mood was really cool and refreshing. Without a second thought, I dashed out from the vehicle with my camera in hand. As the cliche goes: The early bird catches the worm. To capture such landscape pictures would require the photographer to be an early bird too!
