Impression of Lowrey

When we mention Manchester, the first thing that strikes many local football fans’ mind would be that of the Manchester United football team. I have visited Manchester many times partly because of my elder son, Eng Kien, who pursued his medical degree at the University of Manchester from 1992 to 1997. I went back to Manchester again in 2003. Visiting the Lowrey area, I was greatly impressed with the brand new architectural additions over there. I captured this image simply because of the good geometrical designs and colour contrast of the setting. The usually gloomy UK weather seemed to have disappeared all of a sudden and I was greeted with such a brightly-lit lighting condition.

Scattered Light

During my recent visit to Mount Bromo in East Java, Indonesia, I captured this image at the Permai Hotel (opposite Mount Bromo). Actually I was waiting for sunset but the sunlight was not strong enough to penetrate through the thick clouds. Instead, I managed to photograph the fabulous dispersed-lighting effect filtering through the clouds. The silhouette of Mount Batok at the lower left hand corner completed the picture.

Framed by Porte St Martin

While was visiting Paris, France in 2004, Porte St Martin was just nearby the hotel that I was staying at. I captured this image using the soft lighting in the early morning. The image is almost monochromatic but the texture of the Porte was sufficient to enhance the image visually. A small aperture (f/22) was utilized here to achieve the maximum depth of field for the image.
