Hurry Up

This location is a sand dune near the beach of Parang Tritis, Jogjakarta, Indonesia. We were setting up this picture over there in 1980. The villager and his cattle were supposed to stroll along the sand dune. However, he somehow lost control of his cattle. That unexpected slip-up provided the opportunity for me to capture this decisive-moment image. This picture won a Silver Medal at the 9th Linz International Salon, Austria in 1983.

Bali Rice Field

This is an image that won the “Best Photo Travel Picture of the Year” of the PSA Photo Travel Division in 1994. Every year the Travel Division invites photographers to submit their prize winning photo travel slides from all international salons. The best picture is then selected among the prize winning images for this prestigious award. I think the colors, composition, lines, patterns and the setting of this place makes a strong, impactful picture.

This image was also awarded the PSA Gold Medal for the Best Photo Travel Picture of the 53rd Circle of Confusion International Salon, California, USA in 1990. The same image was also published in the “Photography Year Book, 1995”, UK.

A Little Path On A Terrace Field

This is a typical salon-type of picture that depicts the aesthetic value of colours, lines and design of an image. The touch of red colour on the shirt from the villager provides good contrast to the rest of the image. One of the many images of terrace fields that I have captured during my various visits to Bali, Indonesia with this in particular, taken on my recent visit in October 2003.
