This is a study of lines and patterns of light and shadows that I found at Labrador Park in Singapore in 1974. The young man (now he is COL NS Yun Ta Chun), one of my students in Canon photography course, was asked to pose to add as human interest to the whole image. A colour derivation with violet diazochrome film was created to give a contemporary touch. This image was awarded the Fran Clemence Medal of the 13th S4C International Salon, USA, held in 1976.
I love the colours, mood and composition of this image. It was one of the pictures that I captured during my first visit to Disneyland, Anaheim, USA in 1981. The panel of judges for the 1986 Teaneck International Salon, New Jersey, USA, was obviously impressed by the visual impact of this image and awarded me the Rubeinstein Reflection Medal for the Best Reflection Picture of the exhibition.
A typical scene of a terrace rice field captured in Bali while the farmers were busy at work. The main important elements of the image are the composition, colour, curves and lines. The early morning lighting added the sparkle to the shot. This image was awarded Honourable Mention of the PSA International Salon held in Atlanta, 1993.
