Sunrise at Seletar

This image was one the prints that was exhibited at the “Distinguished ASEAN Photographers” event of The Festival of Arts held at the National Museum, in 1992. The sunrise in this image was so soft that even a veteran photographer was fooled into thinking that it was sunset instead. Since this picture was taken fourteen years ago, a pavilion has been built for the anglers at the same site.

Water Fantasy

Waterfalls are one of my favourite photographic subjects. I was attracted by the refracted colours created by the splashing water during one of my visit to the waterfalls at Bali in 1990. The accuracy of the exposure for the rainbow colours of the splash is essential to this image. I utilized a slow shutter speed setting to capture the movement of water at the right moment.

I love the lines and curves that were created by the flow of water. A printed reproduction of this picture was acquired for the permanent collections of a Singapore government ministry.

Kusamba’s Dawn

One of my favorite places for photographic outing in Bali is Kusamba. The attraction here is the mood and atmosphere of the landscape at dawn. The black colour of volcanoes soil gave a strong base for the whole image. The waves in white gushing in from the sea added good contrast. The workers who were harvesting the sea water for salt provided the touch of human interest. Even as an almost monochromatic image, the aesthetics of this pictorial image is still very rich. This image was awarded the Photo Travel Medal of the Golden Spurs International Salon, Belgium, in 1992.
