The Painter

This was one of the images that I captured during my outing to the Jurong Shipyard in the 70’s. Lighting and colour played important roles in this image. The worker’s action captured precisely at the peak of the moment gives the image its greatest impact. This is one of the medal winners of the 26th Minneapolis St Paul International Salon, USA, held in 1974. This is one of the National Gallery, Singapore, Permanent Collections.

Laundry Day in A Village

While touring the Saragan, East Java in 1985, I came across this villager busy with her laundry work. I decided to use a slower shutter speed (1/30 sec.) to capture the decisive moment and at the same time, to convey a sense of movement. The lighting condition also further enhanced the visual impact of this image. This is the Gold Medal Award winner of the Birkenhead International Salon, UK, held in 1989.

Hurry Up

This location is a sand dune near the beach of Parang Tritis, Jogjakarta, Indonesia. We were setting up this picture over there in 1980. The villager and his cattle were supposed to stroll along the sand dune. However, he somehow lost control of his cattle. That unexpected slip-up provided the opportunity for me to capture this decisive-moment image. This picture won a Silver Medal at the 9th Linz International Salon, Austria in 1983.
