“Wheeeeeee… “
The last visit I made to the waterfalls at Kota Tinggi in Johor, Malaysia was as a small little kid in the late 1970s…
I got a chance to visit the waterfalls again during the (Singaporean) National Day long weekend just past. Despite the mid-day sun, I was lucky to catch this decisive moment shot of a child playing precariously on the man-made steps at the foot of the falls. I had to slow the shutter speed enough so as to create a fluid feel to the water rushing down the steps, but yet at the same time, keep the child relatively sharp as the main subject. The speed that I finally chose (1/60 sec) was just sufficient to keep parts of the child sharp. At the same time, the rest of his body (especially the face and outstretched hands) were blurred. This gave the viewer a sense of the rapidity of his movements.
I like it, and what a brave kid!
