As the Chinese (Lunar) New Year approaches, Chinatown becomes a bustle of activity with people checking out the festive goodies and bargains, or just soaking in the atmosphere. I made my almost obligatory yearly sojourn to Chinatown yesterday in search of pictures 🙂
Singaporeans are crazy over ba kwa, or barbeque dried pork, which is eaten as one of the festive goodies for the season. Ba kwa prices can go up to more than S$40 per kg at this time of the year, with the queues spilling into the streets and people waiting up to more than an hour for their turn to buy their share. This particular picture was taken outside one of the most popular ba kwa shop in Chinatown. I guess playing with his mobile phone was all the guy could do in the queue to keep himself occupied while waiting for his purchase.
Wonderful long exposure photo. It gives me both a sense of the passage of time with the ghosted people and time standing still while waiting in the queue.
excellent shot. The man looking at the handphone stands out pretty well… the “pls queue” sign adds humour the the shot.
Thanks Otto and jcyrhs 🙂 I was lucky that the man stood almost rock-still for quite a while — I managed to actually squeeze out quite a number of pictures during that period. I wonder if he was playing a game on his phone or something, or maybe he was sending an SMS home to find out how much ba kua he should buy 😛
wow.. very good technique here, the guy really stood out from the rest! great choice to shoot this from a higher vantage point..
Love the long exposure you’ve used on this one… really conveys the sense of huslte and bustle well.
This is a great entry for the Blur challenge on PhotoFriday. The ghostly face appearing above the cell phone adds a bit of mystery to the shot.
Nice shot, i like this style of shot. Keep up the good work
