Illumination by the Kapok Tree

The old Kapok Tree at the Singapore Botanical Gardens provides lots of opportunities for creative photographic work. A visit to the Gardens after a long period of absence presented the above scene. The early morning sun provided strong and dramatic backlighting to the scene. I love especially the touch of rim light on the edge of the great old tree. More pictures from the Botanical Gardens to follow…

Fluid Fighting

One more from the Bugis Junction fountain series…

It is not easy to get a clear background when taking pictures in public places, especially just right outside a shopping mall! Passers-by cross right in front of you and spoil your pictures. Else, they end up as distracting subjects in the background of your pictures! One way to do it is to adopt a higher angle to simplify the background clutter (like what I did for the two previous posts). An alternative in unavoidable situations is to do some “post-production work” as I have done here.

As an aside, the boy’s pose reminds me of what I do for Body Combat classes in the gym 🙂

The Little Water Guru

Taken at the Bugis Junction fountain featured in the previous shot, this boy was also having fun with the water. At one moment in time, he decided to play-act as a master/guru of the waters. He sat on his knees in a meditative pose and pretended to raise the waters with his mind power, oblivious to this photographer who was busy snapping pictures of him 😛
