“How Many Can I Fit Into My Bag?”
The Esplanade Theatre (featured in recent posts) has been affectionately named “The Durian” by Singaporeans. Indeed, durians are a favourite among Singaporeans. Imported from neighbouring Malaysia and Thailand, the pungent fruit is sold in abundance in the Geylang area from roadside stalls. I decided to pay a visit to the area yesterday. Lighting was soft and flat unfortunately (as it has been of late because of the arriving rainy season). I was able to boost up the saturation and contrast quite markedly with Photoshop, thankfully.
The strong vignette easily brings the attention to the buyer of “king of fruits” but it’s rather too strong for me. Your compositional skills are sufficient and a more subtle “lighting” will appeal more.
Thanks jcyrhs for the comments! The original scene wasn’t too brilliantly lit and was not as contrasty as I had hoped. So the vignetting was actually intentional. Anyway, there should be good photo opportunities in the area… I think I’d be heading back there another time!
I think this one cam out well. But let me tell you, I definitely would not be parting with $2. Tried it once, but never again!
