Colours Of The Lupins
The abundance of Russell Lupins at Lake Tekapo might make the whole place very attractive, but capturing a unique shot of them wasn’t easy. It was just too easy to lose track of the big picture and composition when framing through the viewfinder. Also, the windy conditions didn’t make it any easier. For this particular shot, I approached it by framing the Lupins from near to far, and by using a wide aperture for differential focus so as to bring depth to the scene. An advantage of using a wide aperture (as well as a higher ISO setting): I could use a higher shutter speed, thus enabling me to get the foreground Lupins in focus despite the windy conditions.
