Life’s But A Walking Shadow

Macbeth by William Shakespeare was my examination text in Literature when I did my GCE ‘O’ Levels some 15 years ago. I am surprised by how vividly I can still recall passages from it up till now (listening to a taped version of the play daily while preparing for the ‘O’ Level examination then probably contributed to this! :p). One favourite passage which a friend used to quote ad nauseum was this:

Out, out, brief candle!
Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

This passage is an inspiration for the above series of photos which I did a while ago.

A semi-abstract shot with the 20D… As the Chinese New Year approaches, Singapore has been bathed with generous sunshine. I was attracted by the lines and patterns of the boats berthed at the Changi Jetty. The effect was further enhanced by the interesting reflections in the water.
