Unwavering Spirit

Originally titled “Spirit of the Desert“, this shot (taken at the Pinnacles Desert at Nambung National Park, Western Australia last year) was renamed “Unwavering Spirit” for a competition which I took part in recently. Unfortunately, the judges did not like the shot enough to award it a prize ;p However, it remains still, a favourite of mine in terms of lighting, composition as well as the interesting contrast of lines and patterns.

Zig-Zag Under The Esplanade Bridge

I was having dinner under the Esplanade Bridge yesterday evening while out celebrating the Chinese Mooncake Festival. While waiting for dinner to be served, the zig-zag patterns formed by the Bridge, the Merlion Park waterfront and the foreground barrier caught my eye. Mounting my camera on a tripod, I captured a 10-second exposure of the scene. The long exposure gave the water and reflections a milky, dreamy feel. By coincidence, a bumboat lit with lights passed by while I was taking the picture. This created the bright streaks that you see next to the lit waterfront in the distance.

Twilight By The Boardwalk

This shot of the Changi Beach Boardwalk by the evening twilight was taken when I visited the place in June earlier this year…

The skies were initially dull and colourless being a gloomy day. I was lucky when the colours of the sun broke through just right before sunset, lighting up the wispy clouds and at the same time, providing a nice, warm and orange glow in contrast to the silhouette of the boardwalk.
