In Captivity

An unusually bright day in the recent spate of bad weather in Singapore saw both my dad and I heading to the “bird-song” park at Ang Mo Kio, Singapore to take pictures. Groups of men come here every weekend with their cages of prized song birds and would proceed to hang them high up on poles so as to engage them in unofficial singing competitions. Capturing pictures in the area is never easy though, as the background is cluttered by the neighbourhood as well as the numerous pedestrians walking through the area. I was lucky to catch this lone bird cage amongst the many poles erected around. Using a wide aperture and a long focal length, I was able to isolate it in focus while keeping the rest of the scene a nice blur.

路 (Journey)

I was out for dinner at the Stadium Waterfront in Singapore just Friday past, when I chanced across these interesting shadow and grid patterns on the suspension bridge linking the Waterfront to the Cosy Bay residential area opposite it. The pair of legs and the long shadows cast by them added a touch of human interest to the shot.

Reflecting On Old Times

I took this about a year ago while cooling down in the air-conditioned comfort of the atrium of the Esplanade after a photographic outing…

I was just about to pack up my camera in the bag when I chanced upon the candid moment of these two old ladies seemingly reminiscing on old times. The sunlight streaming through the skylight provided a dramatic natural spotlight that iluminated and highlighted the animated conversation between the two ladies.
