“Anyone fancy a used camera?”
This area in Singapore’s Chinatown is full of small-time road-side traders, selling a fascinating array of knick-knacks, stuffs and junk, from “precious stones and rubies” to “limited edition” porcelain and pottery.
When this particular man first started setting up his stall this morning, I could not help noticing the title of a book he laid out right at the beginning: “CAMERAS”. Eventually, bits and pieces of old camera equipment started to come out on display: from China-branded Seagull SLRs, to old Olympuses, Yashicas, and Minoltas… even a toy camera (look at the cyan-coloured one!) and a soda-pop can (in his hands) which actually turned out to be a camera in disguise!
By the way, I hope you have enjoyed the first two guestblog entries (see here and here) so far. If you are keen on having your pictures featured in my blog as a guestblog entry, do send me a contact!
Interesting shot.
Too much post processing for me; the burning of the background is too artificial for me, even when it brings the attention to the “stall”.
I’m actually picturing him waving his hand “come take a look!” with a wide grin on his face. =)
Thanks jcyrhs for the usual feedback. The post-processing with regards to the background was actually minimal. The background (the underground market) behind was really that dark. I have just done slight lowering of the levels and saturation for the background, that’s all.
I feel there is a spotlight shining on the entire pic. I would push up the saturation a bit, looks very dull on my monitor. would it work better in black and white?
is that a lens right in the center?
Thanks ashwin. The spotlight effect was courtesy of the morning sun, which was coming in at quite a nice angle from the right of the picture. The saturation does look a little off on my monitor here at work too. Will have to take a look at the original when I get home. Not sure whether if I made the conversion to Adobe RGB (my default working colour profile) to sRGB colour space before I posted this online. I think the object in the center looks more like a spotlight than a lens although I could be wrong!
