招财进宝

招财进宝
A slightly more conventional angle of the decorations at Chinatown compared to the previous shot…

A literal translation of the image title (for those not familiar with Chinese) is “Hailing for Wealth, Enter the Treasure”. Part of the Chinese New Year tradition involves passing on auspicious greetings and wishes for better wealth and happiness. Chinatown is now decorated with canines (the Dog is the incoming Chinese zodiac year-sign) inviting wealth (in the form of giant gold ingots) for the New Year.

By the way, I have been tagged by pfongName five of life’s simple pleasures that you like most, then pick five people to do the same: 1. Enjoying a simple meal with loved ones, 2. Cozying with CY for a good movie, 3. Going for a leisurely drive, 4. Singing a favourite song, 5. Travelling the world. People to tag: CY, James, Jem, Otto and jcyrhs.

  1. jcyrhs: well, one thing, that was the only view I had from the overhead bridge I took this picture from. Secondly, I wanted the dog to be “hailing the treasure/fortune” in towards the viewer 🙂

  2. 5 of life’s simple pleasures eh?

    1) Silence – it’s amazing just how relaxing it is to sit somewhere where there’s not a sound, like at dusk by a Scottish loch 😀
    2) Sunshine – makes me cheery. I don’t like dull, dark days.
    3) Family and friends – they’ll always be there for you, and you can have such a nice time being in their company.
    4) Going out with my camera to some pretty landscape. Photographing it or just sitting there and watching it.
    5) Cuddling up in bed when it’s cold outside 😀

  3. I’ll post my “simple pleasures” later today. I was away for the weekend, so am just now discovering my “tag.” Thanks for thinking of me!
